Acne is a physical and emotional health issue. When will we talk about it?

Acne is Physical and Emotional health issue

I also went through that, like many teens today, it is the result of our adolescence the puberty stage so to speak. In my experience when I started having pimples at the age of 17 fortunately, I finished high school when I started having pimples.

My acne problem is one of the reasons for my low self-esteem, the feeling that I am ugly, that people will tease me, that feeling isn't okay. I try a lot of products to "cure" the acne but it worsens and worsens. until I reach the age of 21 It only increases to the point that I become depressed. I don't want to work anymore, I'm embarrassed to go out.

Effective management of all with acne is important, and its value should never be underestimated. Youth should be asked and taught about acne treatment even if the patient does not ask about management options. “it is difficult to separate out depression that may occur in many persons from depression worsen by the condition itself. It is also difficult to separate out suicidality that occurs in many youth and adults from that stimulated by acne itself. Those with acne should be evaluated for depression, suicidality, anxiety, self-injury, and other mental health issues." _Ruqiya Shamala Et. al  (2013)

Given the depression and my acne getting worse I did not despair, I know there is a solution I keep on searching the scientific studies about acne the root cause to really understand it deeply. Then I try my own method based on the information I gathered. I used to ask many questions because I was desperate to solve my problem. This time I want to share it with you as I know how it feels. I hope you are willing to read and finish.

First of all, you need to know the cause of your acne. One of the most common causes we know of is genetic factors, inherited from our parents or grandparents. The acne is due to your puberty stage 'secretion of hormones, but you should know what are the contributing factors which you can still avoid to not get too worsen the acne such as the products (Mechanical Factors) you use; Avoid facial washes, facial scrubs, or any other products you use. Try to avoid those things for a week observe your self if it will help or not. Use soap with a ph balance or soap that your skin is comfortable.

Don't rub and scrub your face too much try to be gentle when you wash. Avoid touching your face, do not wash your face excessively as much as possible you should only touch your face when washing in the morning before bedtime and in the evening after bedtime. Be clean to your bedsheets and the pillowcases you should change that fabric cases every week. Do not use hair conditioner pomade or wax it may cause skin irritation even the lotion. I advise being observant of your skin reactions whenever you try a new product.

How about food (Diet) is it a contributing factor? From those I read, there is no exact connection between foods and acne. But based on my experience so to say "self-observation" sugar is my worse enemy. So I limit my sugar intake gradually until I was strict with no sugar at all, no soft drinks, chocolates, and whatsoever related to sweets. I often eat healthy foods like carrots and don't eat too many carbs remember that carbs are sugar. Drink lots of water to hydrate your body don't expose your face too much to the sun. (Climate Factors) Try this method for a month so you see the difference.

Conclusion
We all know that an expert (dermatologist) is the one we need when it comes to these health issues but consulting them requires money and we all know that fixing skin problems and impurities is one of the most expensive services. So some people just put up with it even though they are emotionally hurting, others just self-medicate because they know it is expensive. It can be said that this skin issue is also an emotional and mental health issue because it lowers confidence and causes depression. Maybe this issue needs to be expanded especially since most of its victims are young people. Let's not just allow them to be swallowed by depression. An effective way is providing proper knowledge to the youth about the issue and the possible prevention of depression.

When I turned 25 I  no longer had pimples but the scars will forever remind me of what I have been through, don't lose hope that is only temporary
