How to write 'Background of the Study' in College Thesis

"Give your reader a glimpse of the history of which the first invention of your research topic was made, don't forget to cite your references includes name and year."

The overview is focusing on the main point or the important summary of the research not alike to a background of the study that contains emphasis to the research topic itself, it explains broader to a specific concept of understanding to the research variable; e.g 'The acceptability of Jamaican Cherry (Muntingia Calabura L.) as the Main Ingredient in the Production of Ice Cream.' In this given example the independent variable is; Acceptability of Jamaican Cherry, the words Jamaican Cherry is the subject while the world Acceptability is a noun.

The background of the study is the first document that links the researcher to the main topic, it identifies the intention of what the researcher is aiming to know to the subject, in addition, it determines the area which has not been addressed on other researchers, furthermore, it is important to include the reason why your Thesis topic is different from other studies and such factors that made you decide to pursue the topic.


BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The evolution of ice cream is said to begin during the Achaemenid Empire probably around 500 B. C., The term “ice cream” in its broadest sense covers a wide range of different types of frozen desserts like dairy ice cream, non-dairy ice cream, gelato, frozen yogurt, milk ice, and water ice. Clarke, C. (2004) In some reference it said that ice cream started back in 200 B. C., Alexander the great loved snow flavored with honey and nectar. In biblical references it is said that King Solomon was the first to enjoy ice cream made from goat’s milk and snow during the harvest season, Avey, T. (2012) however, it is the Americans who are most often credited with the invention of today’s ice cream

In the Philippines, mango flavor ice cream can be seen in many ice cream parlors. Mango and Aratiles fruit can also be found anywhere in the country no wonder Mitchell’s Ice cream produces mango ice cream in San Francisco California during the year the 1960s, the owner was importing fruits from the Philippines, since then fruit flavor ice cream became instant and attracting to the immigrant from Mexico, Central America, and the Philippines because it reminds them of home, they are also exporting exotic fruit to produce the same. Clendaniel, L. (2014) Ice cream is very likable for the kids, and to the elders, it can also be available on many occasions and celebrations like birthdays, blowouts, and treats. Many fruits are often used as flavoring likewise vegetables, and even seafood like mussels and tilapia, with the continues innovation of the ice cream industry, the proponent aspire to used Aratiles fruit as the subject of the research since it is widely available in the area of Bacoor Cavite but less known in the market. The researcher is challenged to use Aratiles because of their rarity in food product innovation.

    1. Hello, Regardng to your question about aratiles cany, there has been an study conducted about it called "aratiles gummy candy" from Cavite State University Imus, Cavite. From their findings it is possible.

      Now, from your question if it is a good research study?
      My answer depends on what you want to prove (what the study is all about), it's about marketability, profitability, etc.

      Based on the research we made aratiles is acceptable as an ice cream flavor and it is acceptable to the market. I assume that all product to be made from aratiles either cady or flavoring is acceptable and marketable because people are familiar with it especialy the 90s to older generation.

      Based on our recomendation the scarcity of its fruits can hinder the mass production of any product related to araties fruit. The burden of our research is on the side of plantation or argicultural aspect of the aratiles.
